Pope Francis' reform process must deliver important changes

Colm Holmes • 3 October 2023

WAC International Press Release, Rome, 3 October 2023

We are Church International support the unprecedented reform process initiated by Pope Francis that will bring spiritual, cultural and structural changes into the Catholic Church. The involvement of baptised men and women who are not bishops is a fundamental step from a hierarchical system towards a truly inclusive synodal church, which will bring to life the essence of the Gospel of Jesus.

The synodal process that was accompanied and supported by We are Church International revealed the same problems on every continent: misuse of clerical power, subordination of women and outdated sexual doctrine. The synod must find plausible answers to address the causes of spiritual and sexual abuse that so deeply destroyed the credibility of our church.

We Are Church International appeals to all synod members to courageously help shape this ambitious synodal process of Pope Francis to bring important changes into the Catholic Church.

We are Church International cooperate with Spirit Unbounded presenting “Human Rights in the Emerging Catholic Church” - a weeklong lay-led synodal assembly coinciding with the Synod in Rome. More than 110 voices from all continents represent the diversity of the global church at this hybrid event from Rome, Bristol and online October 8 to 14, 2023.

On October 15 and 16, 2023
We are Church International will hold its biennial conference “Equality for all” in Casa Bonus Pastor in Rome and will choose its Coordinating Team. We are Church has compiled a list of all reform events, meetings and vigils in Rome in October 2023, that we know of:
