Only 1% of Catholic population took part in Synod in Ireland

Synod participation rates very low – but Ireland & N. Ireland well ahead of England & Wales

Based on the currently available figures and estimates, participation rates in the Synod Listening Process were very low:

Ireland & Northern Ireland:               42,000            = 0.93% of Catholic Population

England & Wales                                30,000.          = 0.57% of Catholic Population

Pope Francis had asked for the listening process to include those at the margins and those of other traditions. But this does not seem to have happened to any significant extent. Looking at the participation rates compared to the total populations showed very low participation rates:

Ireland & Northern Ireland:               42,000            = 0.60% of Total Population

England & Wales                                30,000.          = 0.05% of Total Population

It is a dull document but perhaps all the cans that have been kicked down the Synodal road will yet create a din that cannot be ignored.
