German Synodal Path is a model for Synodality in practice

Congratulations to the German Synodal Path who voted 93.65% and 80.77% in favour of Women Deacons (11 March 2023)

Here are 5 interesting comments made before the vote was taken:

1.   Sr Philippa Rath: She and her Superior met Pope Benedict XVl in Rome and asked him about Ordinatio Sacerdotalis: Benedict replied it was Church teaching but not dogma.

2.   Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck endorsed the Petrine and Marian Principles, but stated they should not be gender based.

3.   Bishop Rudolf Vorderholzer stated that the Roman Catholic Church is the last bulwark in the world to stand up for the different roles of men and women.

4.   Gregor Podschun simply stated “The Patriarchy must be destroyed”

5.   Cardinal Reinhard Marx noted that the arguments against Women’s Ordination over the past 30 years have become weaker and weaker.

It is a dull document but perhaps all the cans that have been kicked down the Synodal road will yet create a din that cannot be ignored.
