Eamon Maher presented a clear overview of Irish Catholicism, from the visit of Pope John Paul ll in 1979 up to Pope Francis. For many decades the State and Church hierarchy acted in tandem. Today we may be Post-Catholic but we remain a Christian country. The pomp and clericalism have been seen to be un-Christian.
