We are Church Ireland thank Marie Collins for dedicating three years of her life to the promising reforming work of the Vatican Commission for the Protection of Minors.
That she felt she has no option but to resign in frustration from the lack of Vatican Curia support given to the Commissions’ reforms to protect children is a scandal.
This is another example of increasing resistance to reform within the Roman Curia led by high-ranking Cardinals. It is a further serious blow not only against the hopes of many Catholics concerned for the welfare of their children but also against the authority of Pope Francis.
‘In spite of all this resistance Pope Francis must demand universal mandatory reporting to the civil authorities of all cases of child sexual abuse and introduce sanctions against Bishops who refuse to do so’ stated Brendan Butler.
