James Alison on Church teaching, past and present in respect of LGBTQ+

by | May 13, 2026

James is a world-renowned priest, theologian, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within the Catholic community. He spoke  from  both his experience and his theological expertise, showing how current church teaching on LGBTQ+ has come about and how it needs to be changed. It is now widely recognised – including by many in Church leadership – that traditional teaching on LGBTQ+ has reached an impasse. During his talk, James  showed how the relationship of the Church’s teaching on LGBTQ+ has changed beyond recognition, and discusses where we must go next in order to ensure that the Church becomes a place of full acceptance, equality, and inclusion for everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+. Talk was delivered on 16 April 2026.
