WACI offers its sincere congratulations to Sr. Mary Barron OLA on her appointment as Adjunct Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies, beginning on January 4, 2027.
Currently Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles, Sr. Barron will assume her new duties on January 4, 2027.
Mary is a proud Donegal woman, who holds Masters’ degrees in Public Healthcare Administration from the Institute for Public Administration in Dublin and in International Development from the Development Studies Centre, Kimmage Manor.
From 2022 to 2025, she served as President of the Service of Documentation and Study on Global Mission (SEDOS), and from 2023 to 2025 as President of the International Union of Superiors General in Rome, Italy.
She has been Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles since 2018.
Mary was kind enough to take time out of an incredibly busy schedule to share her experiences of the Synod in Rome, at which she was a delegate, with us. Her talk can be viewed in the Talks section of our website, dated 27/03/2025.
We assure Mary of our prayers and support as she embarks on this new chapter in her life of service to the church. We have no doubt that with her experience, her expertise and her wonderful personal qualities, it will be a great success.
