PRESS RELEASE_ 9 March 2017 _ Departing Papal Nuncio Charles Brown failed to consult

by | Mar 9, 2017

Departing Papal Nuncio Charles Brown failed to consult.

The retiring Papal Nuncio Charles Brown has had a significant influence on
the future of the Irish Catholic Church by his appointment of 10 new
Bishops in Ireland’s 26 dioceses. However, he altered the existing practice
of appointing bishops by parachuting priests from other dioceses to be the
new Bishops. In his selections he failed to consult priests and laity as to
their suitability and appointed Bishops often against the wishes of local
priests and laity.
In spite of many requests he refused to meet We Are Church Ireland.
However We Are Church Ireland wish him well in his future appointment.
We are requesting Pope Francis to appoint a new Papal Nuncio who follows
a more open approach especially in consulting laity in the appointment of
new bishops.

Brendan Butler, We are Church spokesperson.
