Joe Mulvaney Book Launch
Over 100 turned out on a wet & windy day for the launch of Joe Mulvaney’s new book in the John Hand Room in DCU All Hallows.
Chairman of the All Hallows Association Tony Gorman remembered well the day when both he and Joe were seminarian classmates!
Gina Menzies launched the book and referred to the letter Joe as a young seminarian wrote to The Irish Press (21 Sept 1968) critical of the Pope’s decision in Humanae Vitae to ban artificial contraception; it landed him in lots of hot water but the Vincentian authorities let him off with just a yellow card.
Joe himself spoke passionately about his wife Maureen and their 3 sons Brendan, Eamon and Cathal, his family in Sligo and his vocation and decades of work in support of reform in the Catholic Church.
It speaks volumes for the esteem and affection in which Joe is held by the many tributes that were paid to him from friends & neighbours & colleagues.
Joe’s book is a very easy read for all who describe themselves as Catholic. It builds on the gospel messages of Christ and sets out clearly the issues that the hierarchical church must address. The book gives practical suggestions which anyone could follow and help to make our church more Christian.
Joe’s book can be ordered online for delivery anywhere on the WAC Ireland website (go to the “Last Supper” section and scroll down).
Well done Joe and thank you for your wonderful support for We Are Church!
