“Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured paradise to the repentant thief.”
Where in the Gospels is Mary of Magdala described as "seeking happiness only in created things"? Nowhere. Unfortunately, by linking her yet again with the woman caught in adultery the Pope perpetuates the long standing fallacy that Mary of Magdala was a sinner, and a sexual one at that.
