Walking Meditation

Find a suitable quite place where you can walk at least 10 steps either indoors or outdoors.

Stand with your left hand on your tummy and with your right hand lightly holding your left wrist.

The following is a mantra which we spoke very slowly while we walked very slowly from end to end of the room we were in (Each line is about 5 seconds):

Etc                                          etc

While we spoke the mantra out loud in a soft voice, this was to help us learn. The aim is to say the mantra’s silently in your head as you walk back and forth. The mantra and walking stop the mind from wandering and open you to the spirit.

Sitting Meditation

Sit straight on a upright chair with your hands resting on your tighs and both your feet on the ground and eyes closed. The technique I am familiar with is to focus on your breathing in and out. It was suggested we could use a “Labelling” technique to stop our minds wandering. So if thoughts keep coming label them: “Thinking” and repeat this word like a mantra: “Thinking”, “Thinking”, “Thinking” “Thinking”, “Thinking” etc Or maybe someone’s coughing is distracting you. Label it “Coughing”. And repeat the mantra: “Coughing”, “coughing”, “coughing”, “coughing”, “coughing”, etc

Sleeping Meditation

Similar to the Labelling technique described for Sitting Meditation, but instead using the Mantra: “Sleeping”, “Sleeping”, “Sleeping” etc etc
