Climate Change and Biodiversity Crisis: Impossible Challenge for the Modern World?

Sr Nellie McLaughlin filled us all with hope, courage and enthusiasm! And being old is no excuse for not getting involved – if you can’t march in front of the Dáil on 20 September 2019 then offer support in prayer, blessings and thoughts!

This year saw the first funeral for a glacier in Iceland. The messages are loud and clear:

  1. Global temperatures rising
  2. Warming oceans
  3. Shrinking ice sheets
  4. Glacial retreat
  5. Decreased snow
  6. Declining Arctic ice
  7. Sea levels rising
  8. Extreme events
  9. Ocean acidification

Albert Einstiein said: “ If the bees go, we’ve got 4 years left.”

Dr Guy McPherson: “If you think the environment is less important than the economy try holding your breath while you count your money.”

St Teresa of Avila: “I have a sense that God is on a journey too.”

OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE   (can be read in 2 different ways)

Market Economy vs Earth Economy

Pope Francis in Laudato Si: ”Our earth is becoming more like an immense pile of filth.”

All it takes is for one good person to restore hope.

Some examples:

  1. Green Wall in Africa
  2. Men’s Sheds working for biodiversity
  3. Cork Dairy farmer setting up BRIDE (Biological Regeneration In Dairy Environment)
  4. Composting in our gardens
  5. Shop local
  6. What am I doing to enhance/deplete AIR / SOIL / WATER / SUN?
  7. Join the Climate Strike on 20 September

Our Deepest Fear

By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.

Sr Nellie McLaughlin

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Thank you Sr Nellie McLaughlin for a wonderful inspiring talk! There will be at least one extra protestor on 20 September’s Climate Strike!
